OS FS-60 prop drive washer removal

Postby jaregalbuto » Thu Nov 16, 2006 11:03 am

How is the prop drive washer attached to the crankshaft of the the open rocker FS-60? Is it a press fit? Threaded? I have tried to press the crankshaft out of the drive washer with no luck. Not enough force available? It is a puzzlement!

FS-60 Drive washer

Postby max hansen » Fri Nov 17, 2006 9:39 am

The washer on this engine is held to the crankshaft with a tapered sleeve & needs to be pulled from the front . You might get by with a battery post puller but OS makes a special puller that fits most all their engines . Later OS 4-strokes had a small key to hold the washer from rotating & you can ID them by the timing marks on the rim of the washer.
Trying to drive or press yours off just makes it tighter.
Good luck, MAX H.

Max H.
Thanks. After I wised up and looked at the front end closely I realized the truth. A friend supplied a puller and disassambly was easy. Ignorance in action is awsome to behold!

I proved that later in the attempt to remove a flat head screw which retained a bearing to an internal gear in the train to the camshaft.
The screw is left-handed.
The result was inevitable. Broken screw. No idea of where to get a replacement. Any ideas?

Thanks again, Max.

Screw

Best I can tell you is to go to the wanted site on here & ask for one , you never know who may have one .
Why are you stripping this engine down so far ? Is it gummed up ? Bearings lumpy? I usually wash them out in straight alcohol from a paint store or maybe a race car shop . I have found that is the only liquid that will disolve old castor oil . Even using glow fuel will help .
I bought a engine like yours awhile back & it was stuck ,heat unstuck it & then washed out with alcohol to free the bearings , a quick run & all is well. Good luck , Max H.

All the bearings were rough and noisy.

Thanks for the reply.
