Hi , i have an old but little of use Sportster 28 and i have this problem.......
The engine has quite a high idle around 3400 rpm and even if i close the barrel of the carb completely it still runs for about 4-5 seconds or so....
I tested for air leaks, the carb is fine (no air leaks) and the only thing i noticed is a small air leak from the screw that holds the carb into place (that holds the to brass tighteners of the carb in its hole).....any other suggestions please? Has anyone had any similar problems?

My 20 Sportster needed to be run very rich for a very long time otherwise it refused to run right. After the motor seated in, it began to run better and better and now runs awesome. I think they just need to break in properly before they will run right.
