Flex tube replacement necessary?

Postby Dan Fisher » Tue Jul 07, 2009 7:47 am

I have a 3.5cc outboard (model number 8907) and need to order some propellers for shipment to Australia. I was also wondering if I should order a new flex shaft and/or flex shaft housing at same time in anticipation of wear. There is not much talk about replacing them - are they prone to wear if clean and well lubed ?

I used to race competitively with the K&B 3.5cc outboard in IMPBA Distric 1 years ago and never once had a flex shaft failure. The Teflon tubes did show some wear eventually but also never failed for me. I suppose it all depends on how much you'll be using the motor and whether or not getting replacements is an issue. I think I still have my new in the bag spare flex cables.
