I have an old 3.5 marine engine........I need help

Postby chrisu617 » Sun May 21, 2006 6:52 pm

I bought a boat with a 3.5 inboard from an old co-worker. I got no manuals, only the information he could give me through experience of playing with the boat for a couple of years. I unfortunatley cooked the engine a couple of years ago when I lost control and beached the boat. It screamed for a couple of minutes before I could get to it to shut it down. I really need some information on idetifying it properly so I can get new parts. It has a custom exhaust flange with water lines running in and out. Other than that it's pretty much the same as what's on the website. I just need to now if there are any distiguishing features that would tell me what year it was manufactured so I can get the proper parts. I really would like to rebuild it. It's a real screamer!!!! It's positively evil with a tuned pipe. If anyone can help me it would be awesome
Thanks.

these are the only changes...

Changes were made to the crankshaft.
Early 12mm, later 13mm.

Very early 3.5's sleeves had a smaller O.D. Crankcase I.D. and sleeve OD must be checked.
Early size is .750 -- Late/current size .765

Early 8906 had a clamped in prop shaft assembly.
New style will not fit. You must replace the entire lower unit.

K/B Inboard (Early)

I have an older 3.5 inboard also and don't know the number.

It is a front intake with exhaust throttle.

The venturi is located at 90 degrees off vertical.

Its missing the exhaust throttle...I hope I can still buy one.

Please start a new post next time.

For exhaust throttles try parther products.
