HP1.20

Postby spitfiremk1uk » Sun May 25, 2008 7:02 pm

Hi Guys.

I plan to use this NIB HP 1.20 engine in a warbird. It has a slide carb with acc pump, ringed piston and gold heads.

Do you have any recommendations as to

1. What fuel?

2. What prop?

3. Reliability?

4. What glow plug?

5. Anybody that has used one of these please tell me your opinion.

Thanks in advance.

Biggest problem is what mufflers. You can't make a 2 into one too easily and alot of them had one cylinder reversed to get 2 mufflers it. That said the motor is LOUD, and is not a lugger so props over 14 inch are disappointing but could be used if pitch is kept light.
use HOT plugs and decent fuel,castor/Synthetic mix. Don't use low oil mixes the rear cylinder can use a little help
It's at least 20 years since I ran one.
I still have a new undrilled aluminum mount for the engine if interested.

Cheers for the info.

I will be making working scale mk9 exhausts for this project some of the work has been started. I have turned one cylinder to allow exhaust exit from both sides allready.

I am looking forward to the load exhaust note. Glad to hear its not a complete dog. Should make for a storming 1/6 scale spit.

There are 2 of these in the pipe line. I hope 2 spits flying formation will make for a great show.

I have a mount allready but I will bear you in mind should I have any problems.

Thanks for the reply. Are you based in the UK?

Hi !

Did you get your Spit in the air spitfiremk1uk ?
If so, can you tell us about your experiences with the HP 120 engine in your Spitfire ?
I have one of these engines myself, and am thinking of installing it in an Graupner Focke Wolf 190, D9 (wingspan: 1740 mm, aprox 68 inch and about 4.5 kilos, 10 pounds, in weight).
What about propsizes ?
I am wondering if it´s like having a pylon racer at the other end of the radio.

Is there anyone else out there having experience flying with these awsome engines ?

Regards
