Oil content for AAC "D"

Postby diesel_don » Wed Nov 24, 2004 10:08 am

Wondering what is recommended as reasonable lower limit for castor content in fuel for AAC set-up for FF running, (engine in mind is Cyclon .8 & 1cc, factory diesel version). Appears to have plain, unbushed rod big end! If castor/synthetic is advisable; What ratio? We used to run 6%castor/6%
K&B X2C in one of Henry's "Mark 100s" (IIRC). But that was for 4minute plus running time, and going for economy, not max rpm as in 6 second FF run. TIACheers;d-d

The F2C guys are running as low as 5% castor last I heard. F2C is run at leanest possible setting, and the motors seem to survive alright. For F/F use you won't need a max lean setting, so you should be easily o.k. with 5% castor.

We have raced Nelson diesels for many years and, we have found that 10% castor is the way to go for most any well made diesel (not paw).

We have used 5% castor. There was a slight measurable increase in performance but, the rate of wear/failure rises dramatically. So, if you need a small edge and don't mind lots of maintenence, go for something less than 10%.

Of course in free flight you might still be running on the after run oil before the engine quits (lol).
