Starting and Running the Original Gotham DEEZIL

Postby davideo4301 » Fri Sep 10, 2010 5:07 pm

I finally managed to start one and see it run under it's own power. Those old enough to remember this cranky old beast will be amazed to see how it was done. The rest will wonder what all the fuss is about. The link below describes the steps taken to achieve this astounding success.

It's my pleasure! It wouldn't have happened without the help of members of this forum.

Hi David

I cast my vote with a no. Based on the compression it does not have. You mentioned you used 70 weight oil and this improved compression. I mixed my fuel with castor oil and compression was still lousy. Me thinks it needs some rework?

The makers of the old Deezil never intended it to run on conventional diesel fuel. I had a look at the manufacture's directions and they were specific, recommending a fuel mixture of 70% 70 weight oil and 30 % ether. I couldn't find 70 weight oil so I used summer weight chain bar oil to cause it to fire.
